Soccer Tournament

What a fantastic day! A massive special thanks to all of the parents who helped out!! We couldn't have gone without you, and we really appreciate you :)

Ready for Student Led Conferences!

We are ready and pumped up for our student led conferences today! We are so excited to share our learning and share what we know and have been doing in class to our parents.
Here is the list of questions we brainstormed as a class for our parents to ask us about.

Questions for Student Led Conferences
As a class we have brainstormed some questions we would like to be asked for our student led conferences.

What do you enjoy at school?
What do you find difficult?

Show me your numeracy tracker. What does it mean - why is it highlighted? Tell me about how you learn maths in Tawhai.
What have you been learning in maths? - can you show me an example?
Tell me about mad maths minute.

Tell me about the daily 5. Show me your task board.
What do you learn to do in the daily 5?
What do you do and learn when you read with the teacher?
What are you trying to improve on in your reading?

What are you learning to do in writing? What is a memoir? What tense have you been learning? - tell me about it. What have you been writing about? - could you show me some writing? How have you been adding details to your writing?

Show me your spelling graph for the term.

What have you been doing for inquiry?

How are you using technology to learn?

Do you want to show me or tell me about anything else?

This is us practicing our student led conferences with our 'parents'.

We hope you enjoy!

Our new learning Journal App

We have been exploring a new learning journal app called "SeeSaw". This will be great for the kids to show what they have been learning in class and talk about it. Mrs Souness can share the learning with parents to see privately, or to the blog to share with the world. The students can look at the progress of their learning over the whole year.

Here is Savana talking about her learning. Well done Savana!

What a week!

Boy have we been busy this week?!
We have been tree planting to save the native galaxiids of the Pomahaka stream. We have been practicing our soccer skills so that we can dazzle at the upcoming tournament, and we have been to the ANZAC WW100 exhibition!  Phew!

What wonderful learning experiences we have had this week. We are so lucky!

Our swimming Video.

With summer drifting away, we have finished up swimming for the term. Here is our video of our swimming highlights. We used the video to self assess so we could see what we needed to work on, what we were doing well and our next steps.

Swimming Memoir - Kain

In summer of 2015 when I was 8 years old we did swimming lessons.
Some days it the water was warm some day it was cold.
When I did backstroke I feeled the water dripping over me.
When I flicked my arms up.
It is hard trying not to bump into other people.

After we did lesson we had free play.

Swimming Memior

We have been learning to write memoirs in class. We have chosen to write about swimming. We have to write our memoirs in the past tense, sequence our memoirs and add detail to our writing like what we could smell, or hear, see or feel.

Gemma, Aniska and Maddie have published their writing with the app Book Creator.
Thank you to the Totara kids that helped us out with learning about the Book Creator app.

ICT in the classroom

Today we have been busy beavers getting to  know the ICT in our classroom. We have  been using Google Classroom on the iPads and laptops to share our reflective writing about Athletics. We have posted them as comments under the Athletics post on our blog. We would love it if you could reply to our comments. We used a PMI as a plan to guide our reflection.
